CBMC Ministry OverviewThe
Purpose of CBMC:To present
Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord to business and professional men, and To
develop Christian business and professional men to carry out the Great
Commission. The purpose in two words is to Present
& Develop The purpose in four words is to Present
Christ & Develop People
The Vision of CBMC:For
all men in our movement to experience: - The
Power of One God
- The Value of One Man
- The
Leverage of One Team
Resulting in Spiritual
Reproduction among Businessmen throughout the world.
"One shall become a thousand." (Isaiah 60:22) Grand
Rapids Metro Mission, Methods, & Market Our
Mission: Our Mission is to help business and professional people
become disciples of Jesus Christ and teach them to reproduce that commitment in
others where they work and live. Our Methods:
CBMC is a network of business and professional people who have received
Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior and are committed to the process
of evangelism and discipleship where they work and live. Evangelism
is taking the initiative in the power of the Holy Spirit to help a person move
one step closer in the process of receiving Christ. Discipleship
is helping a believer progress in the process of maturing as a Christ-follower.
A CBMC man makes a commitment of time, talent and financial resources
to form a network of men and couples whom: 1. Show
concern and encouragement for each other. 2. Permit
Christ to love their business associates and neighbors to Himself through their
"life on life" ministry where they work and live. CBMC
men are encouraged to be a part of the Body of Christ in a local church. CBMC
seeks to establish a community (or team) of men and help them develop Godly character
and competence as disciple makers. Our Market:
If we assume that 10% of the metro area's 500,000 population are business
and professional men and 90% of them have not made a serious Christian commitment,
the "market" for what Metro Grand Rapids offers is 45,000. "The
fields are ripe for harvest!" Men's needs
are growing. We all must deal with stress in the areas of time management, money,
job security, career development and familyto name just a few. Increasing
rates of abuse and addiction to alcohol and other drugs, divorce, and "white-collar"
unemployment confirm that many men are especially in need of hearing about Jesus
and seeing Him living again through other men. Men
& Money: We recognize that doing more, as we expand to the
open architecture, will require more resources, specifically, more men and money.
We are confident that God will provide both if we are serving in His will.
If you are a Christ-follower who would like to have more
information or desire to be a part of the CBMC ministry network by participating
at any point, we welcome you. We need your ideas as we continue to develop new
programs to meet men's needs. Ministry
Financial Partners are needed who will invest $10, $100, or $1000 per month
to help cover staff salaries and the expenses of the Grand Rapids Metro office.
They are also investing in the research, development and distribution of ministry
tools and services by the CBMC of USA Ministry Resource Centre. This
investment produces - great ERI - eternal return on investment. Philippians
4:17 Dr. Howard Hendricks, a professor at
Dallas Theological Seminary, said, "God has brought CBMC into the Kingdom
for such a time as this." He says that the
20 million business and professional men influence
150 million in their businesses and families. He
also says that there are 26 million men in church on any
given Sunday and that most are not enjoying the Abundant Life and living
the Great Commandment, the New Commandment, or fulfilling
the Great Commission. We can serve them! CBMC
of USA has 18,000 members and partners and 50,000 are involved in one or
more aspects of the ministry each year. CBMC International is found in over 70
countries. CBMC is a network of business and professional people who invest their
lives in something that will last forever. CBMC
Ministry is built on three commitments: Commitment
to Christ Commitment to the Gospel
Commitment to each other
The CBMC Vision SATURATING, EQUIPPING, MOBILIZING, SPIRITUAL REPRODUCERS
1. SATURATING the business and professional community
with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the function
or heartbeat of the ministry. Prayer,
evangelism, follow-up, discipleship, and community need to be a natural lifestyle
not just an activity that is added on to a life. It is a way of life, a way
of thinking in the arenas of life where God has called each of us as an
insider. Colossians 1:28-29 CBMC
Ministry - A Lifestyle & A Process In
the Great Commission evangelism and discipleship is one process. EVANGELISM
- Farming: Cultivating, Sowing, and Harvesting We
cultivate relationships with pre-Christians and allow them to see firsthand the
power of God in our changed lives. DISCIPLESHIP - Parenting: Baby,
Child, Adolescent, Adult & seeking Christlikeness This
is NOT a PROGRAM but a long PROCESS. 2. ESTABLISHING
& EQUIPPING THE TEAMS: The primary CBMC resources are the four
Operation Timothy books, the Leaders Guide, and Living Proof I Evangelism and
Living Proof II Discipleship. Living
Proof I Evangelism and Living Proof II Discipleship: A Foundation gave
$600,000 to develop each of these twelve-week video series. Several denominations
and churches are using them all across the country. 1st Baptist in
Atlanta used them in all Small Groups, as a base for its evangelism and discipleship
program. We also offer studies related to issues of everyday life: Marriage:
Fanning the Flame; Intimate Encounters; Unlimited Partnership Finances:
Financial First Steps and Crown Ministries Work: Why Go to
Work; Life Purpose; The Call of God for Every Christian; Margin; Eternal
Impact, and other study guides. cbmcFORUMS can serve as a
Christian Board of Directors for five to eight business owners or managers who
meet 4-5 hours once a month. God is using these
tools all across the country, as He raises up men and couples for each area of
service. 3. MOBILIZING MINISTRY ACTION TEAMS MINISTRY
EXPANSION: CBMC is a ministry that facilitates the work of individuals
and couples as they serve the business and professional community individually
or through ministry action teams. These ministry action
teams need to be clear about their purpose and pragmatic about the strategy with
which they go about achieving it. Accountability
Team CBMC men are encouraged to be part of an accountability team.
These teams of two to five men meet monthly or at least bimonthly for open, vulnerable
accountability for Christ-like growth. We need one another, to lift up
and build up one another. We each have different spiritual gifts and abilities.
Potential Participation Points CBMC's
flexibility is best described as an open architecture ministry network that
is solid at the core (Purpose, Vision & Mission) but fluid at the fringes
(Method). A man can participate at any point that he desires in a program that
truly meets his felt needs. We desire for men to become
aware of the CBMC Ministry, understand it, agree with it, align with its objectives,
believe it is achievable and then move to meaningful involvement. If
we desire to multiply many teams and laborers for Grand Rapids and
beyond, we need a world vision with a focus on the individual. Each
core team member with his own team. 4.
SPIRITUAL REPRODUCTION - BEARING FRUIT: John 15:1-16 goes from - no
fruit, to fruit, to much fruit, to fruit that remains, "bear much fruit,
showing yourselves to be my disciples." For
70 years, evangelism has been a hallmark of CBMC. Over
the last 25 years, CBMC has seen the need to build or disciple believers
into laborors to share Christ, to help others grow and began to reproduce
their own life. "Pray for laborers to go into the harvest."
We need laborers to become leaders.
They would know the whole process and be able to reproduce the process of seeing
others: come to Christ, to grow and to multiply. The Process:
Pray, Win, Build, & Send The Product: Men of Prayer, New
Believers, Laborers, & Leaders yielding spiritual reproducers (2 Tim 2:2 &
Isa. 60:22) The Leader & His Team: The key is effective
leadership that models the way of ministry. Three Choices:
1. We can help good men do something. 2. We can
help good men do the right thing. 3. We can help
good men do the right thing effectively! For
this we need a vision, but Vision without action is a dream.
Action without vision is passing the time. Vision
with action changes the world! That means spiritual
reproducers. Who is the leader? Historically in CBMC the ministry
starts with a man with a heart to see people come to Christ. He
is what we call an anchor. He gets the ministry started and allows others
to build upon it. We are not building an organization but spiritual ministry teams.
The next phase is called the spiritual growth phase. In
this phase the men are moving individually and as a team along in this process
of spiritual growth, evangelism, and discipleship. Four
essentials of leadership emerge from Psalms 78:72. "He shepherded them according
to the integrity of his heart, and guided them with his skillful hand."
CHARACTER; COMPETENCE; COMMUNITY And a CLEAR VISION
of PURPOSE Are we serving as Paul did
in 1 Thessalonians 2:8, "We loved you so much that we were delighted to share
with you not only the Gospel of God, but our lives as well, because you had become
so dear to us." |
